Greetings. I own Southwest Photos, a small photography business in Albuquerque, NM. I specialize in landscape, nature, and portrait photography. My images are inspired by the incredible landscapes and the amazing people of the American Southwest.
Photojournalism. My first experience with photography began when I was enlisted in the US Army. For two years, I worked as a darkroom technician and a photojournalist, learning the craft of photography from combat veterans who honed their skills in the crucible of war. This military experience stimulated my lifelong interest in photography.
College Instructor. After the army, I pursued a career in higher education. For 25 years, I earned my living as a college instructor and administrator in the states of Washington, Nevada, and New Mexico. This collegiate vocation enabled me to travel throughout the Southwest and to gather an extensive portfolio of photos.
Digital Photography Classes. Today, I combine my passion for teaching and photography by teaching six digital photography classes at a studio on the west side of Albuquerque. You can check out the classes at the Classes tab.
Equipment. I shoot with a Canon 7D Mark ii DSLR camera, using two Canon "L" series lenses: the 24-105 mm zoom and the 100-400 mm zoom. After shooting, I edit my photos using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and sometimes Photoshop Elements as a creative way to optimize my images.
Author. In 2007, I published a popular travel and photo guide titled: Photographing Albuquerque. This 72-page guide takes the reader to 18 photogenic sights in and around Albuquerque and also provides dozens of tips for turning ordinary snapshots into compelling travel photos.
